I am Laura Fontaine de Ghélin. I am the manager of the translation and editing agency Fontaine de Mots.

I am trilingual and have a degree in French/Dutch/English translation. I also have a Master’s in multilingual corporate communications from Ghent University, where I was the only French-speaking student in my year. I then completed a course in international trade, during which I had the chance to spend three months on a trade mission in India. Lastly, I took a course with an accredited organisation in order to qualify as a life & business coach.

After gaining some experience in the communications sector and at several translation agencies, I set up as a freelance translator and editor. I built up a network of trusted translators, subtitlers and copywriters. This was how Fontaine de Mots was created.

I am also a member of the Belgian Chamber of Translators and Interpreters (CBTI).

Fontaine de Mots has clients in the European Union (Belgium, France, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Sweden, Ireland, etc.) and also in Switzerland and the USA.

High-quality translation and editing

When I started out as a freelance translator and editor,

I was immediately struck by several things:

A lot of companies use incompetent translators or translation companies.

Too many companies translate their texts themselves, completely oblivious to the risks they were taking (damage to their brand image, loss of customers, etc.).

Many translators work in poor conditions and are not paid a fair rate.

Freelancers and business owners often work enormously long hours at the expense of their health (burn-out, etc.) and their social life.

This is why I defined the following mission for Fontaine de Mots:

To provide my clients with high-quality texts and strategic advice

To inform and inspire companies with the Fontaine de Mots blog, to help them grow their business and make the right decisions

To contribute to the development of freelance translators through training and coaching sessions

To recognise the value of my partners’ work

A highly motivated and experienced team

To do this:

  • I built a network of around 100 carefully-selected independent translators, editors, copywriters and subtitlers;

  • and employed several admin assistants.
